Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has given Archie Gray all the credentials to succeed at centre-back, so even if they face a tough challenge at Liverpool, the 18-year-old will be able to handle either Luis Diaz or Darwin Nunez.
The 18-year-old joined Spurs from Premier League side Leeds in the summer for a fee believed to be in the region of £40m, with the plan being to use him as a versatile defender.
And it turns out that the English star really plays in every position in defense, including midfielder #6, midfielder #8, right back, left back, and throughout the last 4 matches in all competitions, he has played as a center back.
Whether it’s because the kid is playing well or to boost morale when professional central defenders Cristian Romero, Mickey van de Ven and Ben Davies are all injured, Postecoglou has informed in advance that Gray will probably have to play at centre-back for a while longer.
“I said last week that the kid jump, we had no choice, we had no centre-backs left so you have to put an 18-year-old on and he’s cope very well, in terms of football as well,” Postecoglou said at a news conference.
“If we do that just once, we call it selling face to save face. But the kid has done that for many matches, facing tough opponents.”
“It’s not easy to find another 18-year-old who can do as well as this, because they’re not surround by the same old seniors.”
“The starting goalkeeper is not here, the starting center-back pair are injury, and the starting left-back (Destiny Udogie) didn’t play in the last match.”
“So both Archie Register ufabet and Radu Dragusin handled the situation incredibly well.”
“I dare you to try to have a team without a real goalkeeper, a real center back pair, and a real left back on the field at the same time, even if it’s just 100 baht, it will affect the team’s performance. And the truth is that our team will try to play in our own style, in the way we want to.”
“We have to give credit to our team.”
Gray has play well in the eyes of Ange, but his quality is still a concern, having only kept a clean sheet against bottom side Southampton, but has been shot to death the rest of the time.
